What does Magic Eraser do?

Magic Eraser removes selected objects from a photo and generates a fill based on nearby image content. Use it to clean up distractions while keeping the photo’s main subject. The generated fill is an estimate of the background; it does not recover what was actually hidden behind the object.

How to use Magic Eraser

  1. 1

    Upload your source photo.

  2. 2

Select the object and the edges you want removed.

  3. 3

Generate the fill and inspect the surrounding details.

  4. 4

Download the result, or adjust the selection and try again.

Magic Eraser use cases

Remove a passerby

Brush over an unwanted person in the background of a travel photo. Include their outline and any shadow you also want removed. Simple backgrounds are generally easier to reconstruct than crowds, signs, or patterned surfaces.

Clean up a product photo

Remove a stray cable, small prop, or item beside your product. Work on one distraction at a time. Review the product edges and nearby reflections so the cleanup does not change the item you are presenting.

Remove unwanted text

Erase a date stamp or caption from an image you have permission to edit. Select the full text and inspect the fill underneath it. Keep an original copy when the text records information you may need later.

Tidy a room photo

Select a small object on a desk or floor to simplify the scene. Repeating tiles, furniture edges, and strong shadows may need another attempt. Check the generated area at full size before using the photo.

Tips for a more useful result

Cover the full unwanted object without including more of the subject than necessary. Include detached shadows only if you want them removed too. For several distractions, start with a small area and inspect each result. Do not treat the generated background as a record of the original scene.

Magic Eraser: common questions

Does Magic Eraser remove the whole background?

This tool removes selected objects. If you need a transparent cutout of the subject, use Background Remover instead.

Do I need a replacement prompt?

The eraser workflow fills the selected area from its surroundings. If you want to insert a specific new object, use AI Replace and describe that object.

Can it recover details hidden behind a person?

No. It generates a plausible fill. The result may look convincing, but it is not a recovery of the original hidden scene.

Is this tool free?

Generation uses credits or diamonds. Check the cost shown next to Generate in the editor before submitting. Available options may depend on your account and plan.

Where do I upload my image?

Use the main button on this page to open the dedicated image editor. Upload your source photo there, make your selection or adjust the canvas, and generate when you are ready.

Can I use it on my phone?

The editor runs in a browser and supports touch interaction. Zoom in when selecting small details. A larger screen can make precise selections easier.

Will every result look natural?

No. AI can change details or create artifacts, especially around faces, hands, text, reflections, and repeating patterns. Review the output at full size and try a smaller edit if needed.

How do I save the result?

Review the generated image in the editor and use its download action to save the version you want. Keep your source photo so you can try another edit.
